Escola Graduada
The spectacular building of the Escola Graduada de Sa Pobla, the work of the architect Guillem Forteza Pinya, was begun in 1927 and inaugurated on 10th September 1929. It follows the regionalist style with Italianate elements. The central body of the building is delimited by cushioned edges, has a round arched doorway with cushioning and a window on each side. The first floor has a gallery with three semicircular arches, supported by two columns in the Ionic tradition and two attached columns with a balustrade at the base.
The inauguration ceremony was of great importance, as it was attended by the island's political and educational authorities and by the Infante Jaime de Borbón y Battemberg, son of Alfonso XIII, and the President of the Council of Ministers Miguel Primo de Rivera. In honour of the latter, the school bore his name until 1989, when it was replaced by the name it bears today.
