Sa Congregació

In 1889 the Marian Congregation was founded in Sa Pobla to promote the teaching of the Catholic religion, especially to boys and young people; the girls had the Hijas de María chapel in Carrer de la Luna. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Congregation settled in the building on the corner of Lluc and Rosario streets. It began to function as a parish school, and cultural activities also took place there. The vicar Parera and the priest Antoni Aguiló i Valls promoted and opened the doors to all the young people of the town. In 1959 a cinema was built, which was also used as a theatre. Until the mid-seventies of the 20th century, it was used as a children's school.

Through an agreement with the bishopric, it underwent a thorough refurbishment and in 2002 it reopened its doors, this time as a multi-purpose cultural building. The building's doorway dates from 1886.

Local authors. History and literature:
The most notable area of activity - in Sa Congregación - was the pious life, formation and spiritual guidance of the youth of "poblera". The Sunday meetings, perhaps the most important, were used to be instructed on aspects of Christian morals and beliefs. Mn. Antoni Aguló i Valls (1885-1976). Life and work.
