Clínica de Cas Paraire

Also known as the Tugores medical case. In this large house there was (and still is) one of the most important wine cellars in Sa Pobla, (a) Can Lleveta. Grape production had become very important, marking the commercial and agricultural life of the village, until 1891, when phylloxera arrived. The building was built in 1877 by Francisco Villalonga. He did not skimp when he built it; after its construction and in order to silence the voices as he had gone bankrupt, he put a legal tender coin in each of the two hundred iron nails that support the door of the cellar.

In 1944 the building was bought by the German-trained doctor Antoni Tugores i Serra. He used it as a clinic, specialising in tuberculosis and stomach, which brought great renown to the region.

Local authors. History and literature:
15th October 1918, a couple of days ago the new contagious disease "Sa Grip" entered Sa Pobla and we can already find about forty cases, albeit of a benign nature. The following week we could already read: What has happened, dear "poblers"? We all know. God's Majesty has passed through our town, justly irritated against our sins, accompanied by the Exterminating Angel, who in a few days has taken away the cream of our youth. Sa Marjal magazine number 120 year 1918. Joan Parera i Sansó (1865-1928) A man of faith and religion of great character and tenacity.
