Antiga Estació del Tren
Provisional construction of the train station building, which eventually became definitive. On 24th October 1878, at ten o'clock in the morning, the first train arrived in Sa Pobla. Its arrival changed the life of the inhabitants and that of the neighbouring towns considerably. The transport of goods with Palma increased considerably. The rectangular building had 144 m2 on a single floor. It was the home and office of the stationmaster, known as "Quefe", throughout Mallorca. Since 2008 it has served as the local police headquarters.
Local authors. History and literature:
The station building was always considered insufficient for the needs of sa Pobla, and in 1929 there were plans for a building similar to the one in Sineu, which was never built. The warehouse built in 1878 turned out to be too small for all the goods leaving sa Pobla, so in 1906 the quay was extended and in 1941 a part of it was covered to reach 464 metres2. At the time of potato exports, there was a dead rail line that entered the Cooperativa warehouse, where wagons could be loaded under cover. It was dismantled in 1958.
