Casa bressol de les Germanes Franciscanes

Home of the Franciscan Sisters, Daughters of Mercy. They settled in Sa Pobla in 1872, in the convent on Carrer Lluc. The house was blessed in April 1927. Erroneously it has been said that it was the house of Captain Pere Antoni Ferragut (1631-1702). This house of the illustrious pobler was located on the corner of Sant Jaume-Escuela-Comercio, the old "Quarter Vell" (old barracks). The house has a chapel with a barrel vault, which is currently closed.

Local authors. History and literature:
The house "bressol" (cradle) of sa Pobla, was founded by 5 Franciscan nuns TOR. In 1917, in the month of January, they opened a new school in the street des Molí, in the direction of the neighbouring village of Muro, next to Can Gelabert. That day all the girls from the village who were going to learn Christian doctrine were present at the inauguration. At that time there were 20 nuns serving the village, working day and night to look after the sick and the children. Soon the flu would arrive and the nuns would play a key role in helping the dying and infected.
